Two of of the Portland Trail Blazers rookies, #7 Brandon Roy and #12 LaMarcus Aldridge, will be writing their thoughts of their first season in the NBA.

Brandon Posted First, Now Here's My First Post.
posted: Thursday, March 15, 2007 at 4:41 PM

Ok. I'm posting for the first time, so I hope you like it. Brandon and I are sharing this blog, so I guess it's my turn. A couple people asked me about how I did when we played against Denver the other night. I feel great about it, I wish we could have got the win, but Coach had talked to me about being more active, being on the boards and don't settle for being stopped. So I think in that game I just went out and tried to be more active and it ended up working out for me.

I feel like lately I have been gaining more confidence, getting more comfortable. I feel like Coach has been trying to get me more opportunities to score, I feel like he is trusting me more and I feel like my teammates are getting more comfortable with what I can do and are putting me in great positions to score. Playing center is great, I'm a basketball player. If you want me to play point guard I'll play point guard or whatever, I just want to be on the floor, I just want to play. So, playing the center spot, I'm cool with it, I'm just going to keep trying to get better. I think, as I get stronger I'll be able to play this position better.

In that game, I don't know exactly how I got hit but I think it was NeNe, he was going for a ball, I think he reached back to grab it and I was already diving for it and he popped me right in the nose. I came out, like three plays later and it was bleeding and I have a crack on the left side of my nose. They said I should wear a mask, but I don't want to because it's a really drastic change from being able to see from side to side and seeing the outer rim and things like that. I brought it to practice, but I didn't wear it ‘cause we didn't do five on five today. I don't even think I'm going to try wearing it, I'm just going to try my luck and hopefully I don't get hit again too bad. If I do, I'll break the mask out.

Brandon started to talking about NCAA hoops, so I guess I should since it's going on right now and my Texas team has a good seed. I feel like they could do well this year. I feel like if Kevin Durant, DJ Augustine and AJ Abrams, if those three guys play well and if Damion James rebounds well, I think they have a chance to go far. The only thing about that is, to get to get out of their bracket into the Final Four they have to beat Carolina, so that's going to be kinda tough. If I was still there, all I would do is just pass the ball to Kevin and I would just rebound, he's a great player.

I was actually his host when he first came down to visit Texas. It was fun. He came in and I was his host, so we went to dinner and we went out and I showed him a good time. I didn't really know then, that he was going to be that good so I kinda took him to a dull spot , ‘cause I didn't know he was going to be that good. Now they're saying, he's like the number one or two prospect in the country! I didn't think he was going to be that amazing and then he came in and I was like “man, he's amazing!” Anyway, that was fun though, just having time and talking to him, he was picking my brain and I was trying to tell him things that I know about Texas that would help him get better. It looks like it worked out for him.

Finally to finish my first post, I wanted to let you know, who I talk to when I come home. Recently, I got an English bulldog, 18 weeks, she's a puppy. So now, I'm trying to take care of my dog and it's actually a pretty tough job. Her name is Jada, and I can't even think of having two, it's almost too much with one right now. You have to get up in the middle of the night and take her out and it's hard. I've always wanted a bulldog, you don't see a lot of them everywhere. I had to go find one through a breeder. I saw this show called “Big and Rob” and his bulldog skateboards, so one day, I'll teach Jada to board. I forgot my pics with Jamie Foxx, so I'll talk about that next time.

You know, of all the Rookies you don't play like one. I mean, other players look scared, but man you got that KG, Sheed thing going on. Your pretty quick to, man it's going to be good seeing you and Brandon Roy getting better.

Most good players don't really do much their rookie year. You like like you hardly had to adapt. Keep up the good work.

Congrats on getting a new Bulldog. I have one called Brutus that is about 20 months old. When I got him I though I would be getting a unique, farting, snoring, slobbering and lazy dog. Well, he is all of those things except lazy. Bulldogs are a handful (aka stubborn), but are exceptionally cute.

Enjoy, and if Jada needs a playmate someday, just let me know.

By the way, on the court you are making some awesome progress. Keep up the good work and there is no tellin where this team will end up.

Congrats on getting yourself an English Bulldog. I have one called Brutus who is about 20 months old now. When I got Brutus I thought I was getting a dog that would fart, burp, drool and be lazy. Oddly enough he is all that except for the lazy party. Good luck with taking care of Jada. They are a lot of work (aka stubborn and not terribly bright), but are so worth it (aka cute & loyal).

If Jada ever needs a playmate just let me know :)

Hey LA,

The progress that you have made this year has been great to see. I love your hard work and dedication to the team. You are a really exciting player to watchand have a great future in the NBA. I like Pryz but you should be the starter and he should be coming off the bench. Keep up the good work and bring another Championship to Portland!! Just curious... how many pounds have you added since the start of the season and what weight would you like to be at?

I think you are really steppin' up and can't wait to see you guys finish the season strong. Next year is going to be amazing. I fell if you guys continue to play with passion and focus then any teammate who's slackin will follow suit and the blazers will be unstopable. Good luck with the pup and the rest of the season. Oh and also good luck this summer, I hear they want to bulk you up in the off season, which'll be nice just dont lose that quickness.

LA & B-Roy, Thank you for creating this blog. I know how hard you must be working and what you and all the players are doing are making our future very bright. Last night was tough but one of the best games I've seen - I don't care what the final scoreboard said, it was clear who the better TEAM was. If you're downtown in SW - my business is right near a couple of your favorite restaurants. Stop in and we'll hook you up with some fantastic photo enlargements, murals, whatever you'd like. www.tisgrafx.com. Honestly guys, this season it feels like Portland's got it's heart back. I lost all faith in my hometeam until this season. Sergio, LA, Roy, Webster, Outlaw, Jones, this team is full of young hotheads with heart and talent. That's how we win games, that's WHY we win games. We feel your confidence and we feed off of it. Our losses are not ones we go out without a fight in, we play till the last second of the game, and that I'm extremely proud of. Good job Blazers keep it up! Next season you guys even have LaFrentz and Miles playing, that should make our team explode. Miles and Lafrentz can help LA on the inside, Roy and Sergio and Web can handle the outside. I'm excited because I feel a championship is not out of reach for us soon. I know I've been waiting for this moment. Thanks guys.

Unfortunately I was unable to come to any of the meet and greets they offered, I was hoping to have a pair of your shoes autographed if thats at all possible??? My First Post: What I did the last couple of days
posted: Friday, March 9, 2007 at 5:11 PM

Ok, so this is my first blog. I'm just gonna let you know what I've been up to the last couple of days? Cool? After the San Antonio game, Coach gave me a couple days off, so I got to go up to Seattle and see my girlfriend, who's pregnant. I actually got to go to a doctor's appointment with her, I got to hear his heartbeat, so that was really exciting. I also got a chance to spend a time with family, I got to see my grandmother and we looked through old photo albums, stuff like that, it was fun. And, today, I came back to practice, just trying to get back to work, trying to get back on a winning track. We dropped one, our last game, to San Antonio. So today, we just came in and got a lot of work in, but you can definitely see improvement in our team. It's the last month, but guys are still just trying, improving and wanting to get better, so that is a positive sign.

The excitement of having a newborn is pretty great. At first, I did a good job of keeping it in the back of my mind because it was so far away. Now, she is past her 35 week mark, so he could be born any day now. Now I'm on pins and needles, I'm so excited. I just can't wait until he gets here and I get to be a dad and start a new chapter in my life. My girlfriend is actually up in Seattle, we don't have any family around here and I wanted her to be around family in case the baby was born and I was out of town or something. I just want her to be comfortable and she has a good support group there, I just try and go and visit her as much as possible. I talked to Coach, about being there when he is born, and he said just let him know, they will make sure and get me out of here. We are still trying to improve this team, so right now, I am just trying to balance the two out, but I think Coach know that when I'm out on the court I'm all business and when I get a chance to go back home, then I try and do that. Right now, Coach is saying, being there for the birth of your first child is important and when it come that time, just let him know. And the organization has just been really positive and they're behind me, so I'm just excited about everything right now.

The last couple of days I've been watching some NCAA basketball. I've been watching my Huskies. They lost a tough one last night in the Pac-10 tourney. They have a good young team, four freshman, three sophomores, and they've had some growing pains this year. I told them just to remember all the losses they took this year and take it out on somebody next year. They're excited, they are going to do they're best at NIT and just prepare for next season.

I also watched Oregon a little bit...I watched Cal and UCLA a little bit. We lost in the first round last year of the Pac-10 tourney, like UCLA did. I think they are playing for that national championship. I'm not saying they lost on purpose, they gave a great effort and I just don't think they mind that much that they are done. Coach is going to give them a couple days off and they are going to get ready to make their push. It was surprising, but at the same time, I think it's good for the conference, maybe you can get seven teams in. that would be really amazing.

I think the Ducks are one of the scariest teams in the tournament. They remind me so much of my Washington teams, we put a lot of guards out on the floor. Aaron Brooks is playing great basketball and they have other guys around like Bryce Taylor and they are just playing good basketball. I think Oregon could be one of the big surprises of the NCAA tournament and I think USC is another team that can go in there and be scary. I think the Pac-10 is doing a great job this year, the Washington Huskies are 7th place in the conference, so I think that says a lot about the conference. They're a deep conference, so I hope they can go into this tournament and really make some noise.

We're getting ready to take on Golden State on Sunday. Then we go on the road for the Nuggets and have the Pistons the next night at home. It's going to be a busy week. LaMarcus and I are sharing this blog, so next post will be from him. Maybe he'll let you in on when he met Jamie Foxx. I saw some pics. Looked cool. Talk you guys later!

- Brandon

Can't say too many times how thrilled we are to have you here in Portland. We're all looking forward to getting to yell for you here in Portland for many, many years to come.

I want to say congrats on the coming little one, too. I'll bet Martell is making "evil" plans as we speak to completely fill your house, locker, car, etc. with Elmo baby stuff.

Busy week coming up for you, Brandon. 5 games in 8 days. Denver and Detroit back to back, getting back in town late from Denver. Ouch. Your rookie season is going so well, though. Just more stops on the "Brandon Roy - Welcome to NBA Stardom Tour."

Question: We've heard you're really into the X's and O's. I'd love to hear you describe the Blazers basic offensive and defensive sets. Don't tell us any trade secrets. Just give us the "NBA Strategy 101" version from your point of view.

Thanks so much again for connecting with us here, Brandon :D

And LaMarcus... congrats on the 30 pts. game. Thank you thank you thank you for getting it against the Bobcats and Adam Morrison. You may never know how the timing of when and who that career night happened against thrilled those who were hoping more than a year ago you would be a Portland Trail Blazer.

LaMarcus, we also want the dirt on this "big competition" Kevin Pritchard mentioned going on between you and Sergio in the weight room. Your fans want to let you know we're certain this month's minor setback was a temporary one. ;)

Hey Brandon. congrats on the kid man. I think you'll make a good father. I really like the direction the team is going. That game against the Spurs was really dissapointing, but you guys showed a lot of heart. just a word of advice: be a little more aggressive Brandon. I know I'm in no position to say anything about your silky-smooth game, but you can probably score about 25-27 ppg if you wanted to. This team needs a great scorer (besides Zach). I honestly think we'll make the playoffs next season if we continue to improve. Keep up the good work!

First off, Congrats on the upcoming child... It really is a life changing experience, frightening and joyful at the same time. With the amount of maturity that you show on the court, I don't think you'll have any problem with parenthood.
Secondly, you have an amazing knack for getting into the lane and creating/making difficult shots. It is really an asset to have someone of your caliber on the team. I (and I'm sure I'm not the only Blazer fan who thinks this) really believe that with the young core of talent that the team now has, great things are going to open up for the team.
Thank you for your professionalism, maturity, openness, and honesty. It is definitely a wonderful change from what has happened to this team in the past. But the past is the past. No reason to look back now, only ahead to some very successful years.
Thanks again.

Hey fellas, great idea. I'm (cough cough) a Laker fan but I'm a hoops fan first and I got mad respect for you guys. It's good to see some excellent, hungry players up there in a great hoops town. Best wishes to you both (not like you need much help) and Sergio....and that beast Zach Randolph-even though he let me down fantasy-wise last year...

Congrats on your baby coming. You are playing great this year, as expected. This draft class has brought so much hope to all Blazer fans this year and for the future. I love the idea of you two blogging, it is a great way to really know the player and you will really enlarge your fan base. Just stay healthy and keep doing what you are doing.

Hello Mr. Roy! WOW what a wonderful season! You know, my fiance and I were discussing how fun it has been-how entertaining and exciting- and he told me to write to your blog to express how the Blazer chemistry is so great these days it reminds him of the younger Terry Porter/Clyde Drexler years. I can't exactly say I have been along for the ride since the beginning, since I have not been a big B ball fan, but I AM now! I just hope that we keep most of the team together for a little while to keep the vibe going...AWESOME job to everyone! A pleasure to watch, win or lose we will be there from now on! Season tickets here we come!

Brandon,

Thanks for being a real person with us! It's really nice to meet you for real without all the PR hype. It is a really special time for the two of you when your first child comes into the world. I am really thankful that the organization & the coaching staff is willing to let you enjoy this time without putting a bunch of pressure or guilt on you for being away. It seems like they are trying to have the right priorities when it comes to personel issues.
Keep doing what you are doing on the court! As you can see, the fans are really responding your effort & intensity. It will become appartant that if you let us, we will really support you and the team. We are really excited to welcome you to our family & hope for a long relationship & of course, a lot of wins.

Thanks!!

Hey Brandon,
I love finding this blog. (I've been reading Nate the GR8's for the past year.)I'd like for the background color to change to something other than black, though.

Good Luck on ROY. Who else is up for it, again?

Re: PAC 10 play - I don't think we should have had 6 teams chosen, I think Stanford should have stayed out and another Big 12 team been added. It was SO disappointing for UW to be snubbed by the NIT, though. Next year, I think Stanford will come on strong and UW should be more jelled... I wonder if WSU will get better? I can't get behind OR much myself.
As for the SO CAL teams, I'll never back them. They're always going to get good recruits.
The rest of us just have to be good as teams!

Do you ever hear from Tre? He's my fav player from UW. I know he played in Greece, then in Spain (Canary Is.)

Best wishes on your fatherhood and the rest of your season. You're a great role model! Roy for R.O.Y.!

Hey Brandon, i never realized that you were about to be a father... congratulations!!! I have been a HUGE fan of yours, ever since UW (and i am going to WSU, so I'm the only Cougar fan that was cheering for you when you came and played at our school last season) But besides that congratulations on everything that you have going on in your life, I'll be supporting you all the way!!! and i love the fact that you are doing this blog thing, too.... please don't stop that

Brandon,

I am an '05 UW Graduate and moved to Portland a year ago. It has been a blast to see you progress over the years...I saw you play once in high school, saw all your UW games and enjoyed the frenzy your teams success created...now to be able to come out and watch you have such an incredible rookie year has been so much fun. I bought tickets to watch you play Nate Rob the second they went on sale...I was so bummed he wasn't able to play in that game! Anyways, I just wanted to say congrats on all your success, and on your new baby. Its been a pleasure following your career. And Can you believe the dawgs got snubbed by the NIT?!!

Hey Brandon, congrats on your first child. You would be a great father. Also, thanks for contributing to the rebuilding process of the Blazers. I love the way you play and what you can do on a court. Its amazing for the fact that your a rookie, the greatest rook ever. Good luck with your kid and the R.O.Y. campaign. Which I have no doubt that you are going to win. What you did in Roy, OR was great which I believe is part of bringing the fans back to games. Sorry about Huskies but I love them too, plan to attend college there myself. Well, anyway, I have this basketball tournament coming up, I just wanted to know how I could improve on my ball handling, on consistent shooting from the field and free throw line. If you have any drill you do, would you please tell me!!! That would be great. Best to luck to you and the Blazers this year and many years to come. Because I'll be rooting you guys on. Especially at the closing end of this season and for the playoffs.

Hey Brandon, I'm 14 years old and I live in Gresham, Oregon. I love watching you play on t.v. and hate it when the games aren't televised. I have learned so much from watching you this season. I'm really trying to improve my game so I've been watching games as much as possible and I've become a lot better just from watching you play. I'm hoping that someday I can be a Portland Trailblazer. Congratulations on your first child.

Brandon, I love your blog and your game. I really enjoy reading what you write. It's like reading Paul Shirley's blog, but (no offense to him) from a starter and Rookie of the Year. You have the "down-home" style mixed with the "my apartment has many leather-bound books" (Anchorman) sensibility.

And congratulations.
